Abstract

The field study was done at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara on “Influence of nitrogen levels and weed control methods on growth, and yield of transplanted African sarson.” The field experiment was done in split plot design with four nitrogen levels in main plots and four weed control treatments in sub- plots. The nitrogen levels viz. 0, 75, 100, 125 kg/ha and weed control methods viz. T1= Pendimethalin 0.375 kg/ha followed by one H.W. at 40 DAT, T2= Straw mulching 8 t/ha, T3= H.W. 40DAT, T4= Weedy check. The crop gave significantly higher seed yield (1476.8 kg/ha), stover yield (2490.3 kg/ha), harvesting index (36.9 %) and growth parameters like number of primary and secondary branches, siliqua/plant, seed/siliqua, test weight increase with use of 125 kg N/ha as compare to other doses. In weed control treatments the yield parameters like seed yield (1352.3 kg/ha), stover yield (2190.3 kg/ha), harvesting index (37.8 %) also higher with use of Pendimethalin 0.375 kg/ha followed by one H.W. at 40 DAT. The growth and yield parameters also increase with use of more nitrogen levels and weed control methods less recorded in Pendimethalin 0.375 kg/ha followed by one H.W. at 40 DAT.
