Abstract

Objectives
  1. To assess the antipyretic effect of NilavembuKudineer.
  2. To assess the hematological and biochemical parameters after administration of NilavembuKudineer.
  3. To compare the effects of NilavembuKudineer with that of paracetamol.
Methods

A randomized double blind control study was conducted with a sample of 14 participants diagnosed with dengue fever. The participants in the test group was treated with paracetamol, NilavembuKudineer (NKN) and honey and those in the control group with paracetamol and honey water (HW). The body temperature, platelet count and other biochemical parameters were tested in both the groups.

Results

Reduction in body temperature was higher among the participants who received NKN (-2.81 F) than in HW group (-1.73 F). Patients treated with NKN had a significant increase (52%) in platelet count (P<0.01) when compared to those treated with HW (-28%). NKN was well tolerated by all those who received. Conclusion

Administration of Nilavembukudineer has significantly improved the platelet count and reduced the body temperature and hence it can be safely used as an add-on therapy in Dengue fever.
