Abstract

Cardiac lipomas are rare benign tumors of the heart. They are usually asymptomatic and are thus most often diagnosed on autopsies. Symptoms, when present, depend upon the location within the heart. Typical locations are the endocardium of the right atrium and the left ventricle. Diagnostic modality of choice is cardiac MRI. Treatment guidelines have not yet been established due to the very low prevalence of these tumors and are thus guided by the patient’s symptomatology. we describe a case of cardiac lipoma that the initial symptoms of the patient were palpitation and exertional dyspnea. A transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a 3.11*3.14 cm mass in the right atrium. transesophageal echocardiogram was performed, which confirmed the presence of 3.11×3.14 cm mass occupying most of the right atrium. The patient underwent successful resection of the mass from the right atrial septum. Pathologic examination revealed a bilobed lipoma. Repeat-echo showed complete removal of the mass. On follow-up appointment, the patient was asymptomatic.
