Hospitals around the world are facing challenge of decreasing the TAT of patients at ED. Increased attention is being placed on patient turnaround time (TAT), as longer patient stays result in higher costs for the ED and lower patient satisfaction, especially when compounded by increasing patient volume.
This paper aims to analyse the turnaround time of patients at ED of a tertiary care hospital.

In TPA patient approval for discharge delayed from company is 6 hours - 60 %. Total turnaround time of patient assessment in ed – 100 patients.2-3 min is actual time – 90 %. If delayed due to non – availabilty of nurse 5-7 min – 30 %. If delayed due to over crowd is 10- 15 min – 10 %.
It is evident that trauma is seen as an entity on its own in the , but in the trauma is seen as part of Emergency department Medicine. The researcher believes that within the context one cannot separate trauma from other medical emergencies, as all these emergencies are treated within the emergency care environment, whether this is in a pre-hospital or hospital environment. From the literature review it is also evident that in order to deliver competent, compassionate and high-quality care it is essential to state the core competencies required by ED nurses to manage non-urgent and life threatening situations in the emergency care environment.
