A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF A STRUCTURED TEACHING PROGRAM ON NURSING STAFF KNOWLEDGE OF SAFETY MEASURES RELATING TO THE HANDLING OF CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC DRUGS

Abstract

Widespread usage of chemotherapeutic medicines in cancer therapy has increased worker health risks. Methods this study uses an evaluation method. The research design is one-group pre- and post-test quasi-experimental. Karad hospital did the study. 36 people were sampled. Respondents were chosen via non-probability purposive sampling. A standardized knowledge questionnaire is used to assess chemotherapeutic drug-handling nurses' knowledge and practices. Result-The pre-test data suggested that, most of the nursing staff in tertiary care hospital 35 (97.22%) had strongly agreed regarding safe handling of chemotherapeutic medications, whereas 1 (2.78%) of the nursing staff in tertiary care hospital had agreed and no one 0 (0%) After administering Planned instruction programme, the mean and S.D. of knowledge scores climbed to 8.88 and 1.24. After a planned teaching programme, chemotherapeutic medication safety awareness rose. The study found that structured instruction programmes provide adequate knowledge and enable nursing staffs improve their skills.
