Metacarpal fracture is most seen with any age group due to direct trauma to the hand or due to any other associated injuries such as fall from height , road traffic accident and many. The treatment protocol include stabilisation and identify whether its open or closed injury. Open injury includes immediate thorough wound wash and fixation of the fracture.Thorough neurovascular examination should be done before proceeding with the procedure. This report summarise the fracture fixation of metacarpal fracture fixation with mini plating.
Background: Metacarpal fracture is common due to direct trauma and RTA. Management varies from conservative then percutaneous pinning using k wire or else with mini plating. We have seen the functional outcome of metacarpal fracture patient operated with orif with mini plate.
Methods : After open reduction the fracture fixed using mini plate, postop day 3, active and passive mobilisation exercises started. Range of motion were analyses and follow up of the patient done.
Results: Mini locking plating is treatment of choice for metacarpal fracture as it provides good torsional and rotational stability with union when compared to other modalities of treatment.
Conclusions: Metacarpal plating using mini plate is a used to give a rigid fixation and good outcome also seen in unstable metacarpal fracture.
