Abstract

Aim: To appraise the effect of GaAlAs lasers in treating dentin hypersensitivity.

Materials and Methods: Database search was done in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Ovid Medline, Elsevier science direct, Wiley online library, and Grey literature. Six in-vivo studies were conducted using GaAlAs lasers on patients with highly sensitive teeth. PICO model and PRISMA guidelines were used. The Cochrane risk assessment tool was used for bias analysis.

Results: Five studies were reviewed and proved that GaAlAs lasers provide good results in reducing the sensitivity of the teeth and have greater enhancement when combined with desensitizing agents than the latter being solely used. One study was reviewed and gave a neutral result due to the similarity between laser characteristics.

Conclusion: This study concludes that the GaAlAs lasers are better desensitizers than other various lasers and give better prevention when applied along with fluorides on highly sensitive teeth.
