In general, the complication rate after spinal surgery is 7-20 %, while the average complication rate for general orthopedic surgery is 5%. Prospective studies reported a higher incidence of complications compared with retrospective studies. This is due to more accurate recording, lack of recall bias, and clear definition of complications. Despite known risk factors in the literature, the complication rate of spine surgery does not appear to have decreased over the past decade. This study aims to investigate possible complications during spinal surgery.
