Abstract

Background: To evaluate three port LC among gallstone patients.

Materials & methods: A total of 50 subjects who required laparoscopic cholecystectomy were enrolled. The age group 23-70 years were included. Patients were divided into two groups - three-port LC (Group A) had 30 patients and four-port LC (Group B) had 20 patients. The chi-square test was done and result was analysed using SPSS software.

Results: A total of 50 subjects were enrolled. Histology of gall bladder was evaluated. The acute cholecystitis subjects undergoing three-port LC were 33.4% and the cases with four-port LC were 40%. In chronic cholecystitis cases, the subjects undergoing three-port LC were 66.6% and four-port LC were 64%.

Conclusion: Three-port LC is a feasible and safe procedure for LC with satisfactory outcomes like lesser postoperative pain, postoperative stay and less scars.
