Abstract

Extractions of medicinally useful materials from the rhizome of Valeriana Jatamansi Jones. Isolated through solvents of least polarities, viz. petroleum, diethyl ether, ethanol water, and chloroform, are also carried out in this method. In the rhizome of Valeriana Jatamansi Jones. the water extract has maximum yield. Odours vary in different extracted materials. petroleum ether and Diethyl ether extracted with help of Soxhlet apparatus materials show a sufficient degree of unsaturation chain was observed in diethyl ether and petroleum ether extracts. All of the solvent-extracted materials are Specific Gravities refractive indices, dextro rotatory, acid values, saponification, iodine values of these variously extracted materials are also reported. Tests for the presence of specific natural products indicate the presence of suggested flavonoids, phenolic compounds, carotenoids, alkaloids, carbohydrate, proteins, steroids, and oils, steroids and flavonoids in most of the materials.
