Fibrosis develops in response to various damaging effects: viral, toxic, metabolic disorders and others. Fibrosis is the result of damage to hepatic tissue and is accompanied by the activation of stellate cells, followed by their production of collagen, which, in general, is connective tissue. If the balance between fibrosis and recovery processes is maintained, then under the action of the collagenase enzyme, the process of lysis (destruction) of an excessive amount of connective tissue occurs. With chronic liver damage, the regeneration processes in the liver are disrupted, and fibrosis progresses.
